ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Trisomy X

Okay, so inside your body you have something called chromosomes. It's like a tiny package of information that tells your body what to do. Most people have 46 chromosomes, but some people can have more because of a little mistake. One of these mistakes is called trisomy x.

Trisomy x means that a person has an extra X chromosome. Normally, girls have two X chromosomes and boys have one X and one Y chromosome. But with trisomy X, a girl has three X chromosomes instead of two.

This extra chromosome doesn't usually cause any problems and a girl with trisomy x can still do everything that other girls can do. But sometimes, girls with trisomy x may have some differences, like being taller than usual, having a hard time with reading and writing, or maybe having some trouble with their muscles or coordination.

But, just like any other person, girls with trisomy x are special in their own way and can still be happy and healthy.
