ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tteok

Tteok is a type of Korean food that is made out of rice.

Imagine cooking rice on the stove like your grown-up does. Once the rice is done, it gets pounded and mashed up into a doughy substance. Then, the dough is shaped into little cakes or tubes.

Sometimes, people add different things to tteok to give it a different flavor. For example, they might add sweet bean powder or sesame powder.

Once tteok is all ready, you can eat it by itself or use it in other dishes. Some people like to dip it in sauces or steam it with other foods. It's a yummy treat that lots of people love in Korea!
