ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Turkish copula

Copula is a fancy word that means a linking verb, that is a word that connects the subject of a sentence to something else in the sentence.

In Turkish, there is a special copula (the word "is" in English) that is added to the end of a noun or adjective to show that it's describing something in the present tense.

For example, "Ben bir öğrenciyim" means "I am a student" in Turkish. Here, "yim" is the copula which shows that "I" am a student right now.

Another example would be "O evli" which means "she is married." Here, "li" is the copula which shows that "she" is married right now.

So in summary, the Turkish copula is a special word that connects a noun or adjective to present tense, letting us know what is happening or what something is right now.
