ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Two-balloon experiment

Alright kiddo, picture this: you have two balloons, one big and one small, and you want to fill them up with air. But here's the catch - the big balloon has a small hole in it and the small balloon doesn't.

Now, you blow into the small balloon until it's full of air and tie it shut. The big balloon is still empty because the hole is letting the air escape. But, if you hold the small balloon close to the hole in the big balloon and let go of the small balloon, something interesting happens.

The air from the small balloon rushes out and fills up the big balloon through the hole. And guess what? The big balloon now has more air than the small balloon even though the small balloon was originally bigger! This is because the big balloon was able to catch the air from both balloons.

This experiment shows how air pressure works - when there's more air in one place than another, it flows from the area of high pressure (the small balloon) to the area of low pressure (the big balloon with the hole).

So, there you have it! That's the two-balloon experiment explained in a way that even a five-year-old can understand.
