Uganda Cowries

Have you ever seen a seashell? A cowrie is a type of seashell that is very pretty and has a round shape. In Uganda, people used to use cowries as money a long time ago, kind of like coins or bills that we use today.

Back then, people would trade things they had, like food or clothes, for cowries. They would use these cowries to buy other things they needed or wanted. Think of it like trading your toys with a friend for something you really want, like a candy bar.

Today, cowries are not used as money in Uganda anymore, but they are still used for decoration and jewelry. Sometimes, people will even sell and trade cowries as a special item because they are rare and beautiful. So, even though they are not used for money anymore, they still hold value and are loved by many people.
