Ugarit

Ugarit was a city that was located in modern-day Syria around 3,800 years ago. In 1928, archaeologists discovered many clay tablets written in the language of Ugaritic, which taught us a lot about the culture and beliefs of the people that lived in Ugarit. Ugarit was also a coastal city, meaning it was a trading hub for other places located around the Mediterranean Sea. It was home to a lot of different cultures and religions and artifacts like art and jewelry. The discoveries at Ugarit were important because they were the first examples of a written language from this time period.
