Umbraculum

Umbraculum is a special kind of umbrella that is used by popes in the Catholic Church to protect them from the sun or rain during processions. Just like how you use a regular umbrella for rain or sun protection, the umbraculum works the same way but is made with special materials and has fancy decorations on it. The umbraculum is usually carried by special people called "flabella" who walk on either side of the pope during the procession. When you see the pope being carried on a throne, you might notice the umbraculum being carried alongside him. This special umbrella is a symbol of the pope's authority and is only used during very important religious events.
