ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Unitary state

A unitary state is like if you have a big group project to do, and one person gets to be the boss who makes all the decisions. They tell everyone else what to do and everyone else has to listen to them. In a unitary state, there is one big group that makes all the decisions for the whole country. They are in charge of everything and everyone in the country has to follow their rules. It's like having one big boss. The boss can also make smaller bosses to help with the work, but in the end, they are all working for that one big boss.
