ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vani (custom)

Ok kiddo, so imagine you have a special toy that your grandparents gave you. It's really important to you and you want to take good care of it. So, your mom tells you to always keep it in a safe place and not to let anyone play with it or borrow it without asking you first.

This is kind of like vani, or custom, in some cultures. It means there are rules and traditions that people follow to show respect and care for certain things or people. For example, in some cultures, when a guest comes to visit, it is important to offer them food and drink and make them feel welcomed.

Another example of a vani is a promise. When you promise to do something, it is like making a special agreement with someone. You have to keep your promise and do what you said you would, otherwise it could hurt the other person's feelings or create problems between you.

So, vani is a way to show respect, care and responsibility for things, people or promises that are important in our lives. It's like having a special toy that we always keep safe and take good care of, or making a promise to someone and keeping it so that they can trust us.
