ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vayeira (parsha)

In the Bible, there is a book called Genesis. Inside Genesis, there are many stories about the beginning of the world and the first people on Earth. One of these stories is called Vayeira, which means "And He Appeared" in Hebrew. This story tells us about a man named Abraham and his family.

In the beginning of the story, Abraham is sitting outside his tent when he sees three men walking towards him. Abraham recognizes that these men are special and treats them with great respect by giving them food and water. The three men tell Abraham that they are actually angels sent by God to visit him. They bring good news and tell Abraham that he and his wife Sarah will have a baby even though they are very old.

Later in the story, Abraham is very worried because he hears that God is going to destroy a city called Sodom because the people there are very wicked. Abraham begs God to spare the city if there are even just a few good people living there. God agrees, and sends two more angels to investigate the city. Unfortunately, they do not find enough good people, and Sodom is destroyed.

In the end of the story, Abraham's wife Sarah gives birth to their son, Isaac. This is a miracle because both Abraham and Sarah were very old and had never been able to have children before. The story of Vayeira shows us that even when things seem impossible, sometimes miracles can happen.
