ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vehicle miles of travel

Imagine you have a toy car. Every time you play with that toy car and drive it around, that's like one mile of travel. Now imagine you have a big car, like mommy and daddy's car. Every time they drive that car around, it also adds up miles of travel.

"Vehicle miles of travel" is when we add up all the miles that all the cars in a certain place or country drive. It helps us understand how much driving is happening and how it affects things like the environment, traffic, and how much gas is used.

So basically, vehicle miles of travel is like adding up all the miles every car has driven in a certain place or time period, so we can learn more about how much driving is happening.
