ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vehicle size class

Okay kiddo, so you know how some cars are bigger than others, right? Well, car companies like to put cars into groups based on size. These groups are called vehicle size classes.

There are different ways to decide which cars belong to each size class, but most car companies use how long the car is as the main factor. The longer the car, the bigger the size class it's in.

The smallest size class is called subcompact. These are really tiny cars that usually only have two doors and can only fit a few people inside. They're good for driving around in cities because they're easy to park.

The next size class up is compact. These cars are a little bit bigger than subcompacts and can fit more people, usually up to four or five. They're still pretty small though compared to other cars.

After compact is midsize. These cars are bigger than compact cars and can usually fit up to five or six people. They have more space inside for things like luggage, but they're still not the biggest cars out there.

The two biggest car size classes are called full-size and luxury. Full-size cars can fit up to seven or eight people and have lots of room inside for things like groceries or sports equipment. Luxury cars are even bigger and usually have fancy features like leather seats and a big touchscreen for the radio.

So, there you have it, kiddo. Vehicle size classes are groups of cars that are divided up based on how long they are. The longer the car, the bigger the size class it's in.
