Velvet season

Okay kiddo, let's talk about the velvet season. You know how sometimes, when you pet a dog or a deer, their fur is really soft? Well, during the velvet season, male deer grow antlers on their head, and those antlers are covered in a really soft, fuzzy layer called velvet.

This usually happens in the summertime, when it's warm and the deer can eat lots of yummy food to help them grow big and strong. As their antlers grow, the blood vessels in the velvet help to nourish them and make them stronger too.

Once the antlers are fully grown, the velvet season is over and the deer rub their antlers against trees and bushes to knock off the velvet. Then, they have hard, shiny antlers that they can use to impress other deer or defend themselves if they need to.

So, velvet season is just the time of year when male deer grow soft, fuzzy velvet on their antlers. It's a pretty cool time for nature enthusiasts to see these big, majestic creatures in action!
