ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Viceroy

Okay, so you know how sometimes there's a big boss who is in charge of everything in a country, like a king or a queen? Well, sometimes they can't be in charge of everything all the time, because it's too hard and they have other stuff to do.

So, they might pick someone else to help them out, called a viceroy. The viceroy is kind of like the king or queen's helper—it's their job to do some of the king or queen's work for them.

The viceroy might help make decisions about important stuff like laws or money. They might also be in charge of making sure things are running smoothly and that everyone in the country is safe and happy.

But, even though the viceroy is helping out the king or queen, they're still not the boss. They have to do what the king or queen tells them to do, and follow their rules.

So, that's basically what a viceroy is—a helper for the king or queen who does important work but still has to follow the king or queen's orders.
