ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Violation out-of-service

Okay buddy, let me explain what violation out-of-service means very simply. Imagine you are playing with your toys and your parents tell you that you have to put a toy away because it's broken or dangerous. They tell you not to play with it and put it somewhere like a drawer or shelf. That toy is now out-of-service, meaning you can't use it until it gets fixed or someone says it's okay to play with again.

In the same way, when a truck or bus driver gets pulled over by police or safety inspectors, they might find a problem with the vehicle that is dangerous for driving on the road. It could be something like bad brakes, broken lights, or missing safety equipment. When this happens, the driver is given a violation out-of-service, which means they can't drive the vehicle until it gets fixed or someone says it's safe to drive again. This is done to protect everyone on the road and make sure that damaged or unsafe vehicles stay off the road until they are fixed.
