ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vishu

Vishu is a special festival that people in South India celebrate every year. It usually happens in the month of April.

During Vishu, people do many things to celebrate. They wake up and go to their family's prayer room, or "puja room", to see something special called "Vishukkani". This is a group of items like rice, fruits, flowers and a special mirror that they place in the room the night before.

The idea is that when you wake up and see the Vishukkani, it brings you good luck for the rest of the year.

After this, people wear new clothes and go to the temple to pray. They also participate in a big feast called "Sadya". This is a delicious meal with lots of food and sweets like payasam and ada pradhaman.

Overall, Vishu is a happy and colorful festival that brings people together to celebrate the start of a new year with lots of joy and happiness.
