ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Voigt notation

Okay, so imagine you have three boxes, and you want to keep track of what's inside each box. But instead of saying "there's a toy car in box 1, a stuffed animal in box 2, and a ball in box 3," you can use a special code to make it easier.

This special code is called the Voigt Notation. Instead of using words, you can just use numbers to represent what's inside each box. But it's not just any numbers - they have to follow a certain order.

Here's how it works:

- The first number represents what's inside box 1
- The second number represents what's inside box 2
- The third number represents what's inside box 3
- The fourth number represents what's inside both box 1 and box 2 (if there's something inside both boxes)
- The fifth number represents what's inside both box 2 and box 3 (if there's something inside both boxes)
- The sixth number represents what's inside both box 1 and box 3 (if there's something inside both boxes)

So if you had a toy car in box 1, a stuffed animal in box 2, and a ball in box 3, your Voigt Notation code would be: "1 2 3 0 0 0".

See how it's easier to write that than saying it all out loud? That's why scientists and engineers like to use Voigt Notation - it helps them keep track of things more efficiently!
