Volkswagen emissions scandal

Okay kiddo, so let me tell you about the Volkswagen emissions scandal.

You know how cars work, they have an engine which uses fuel to make them go. But sometimes, the smoke that comes out of the engine can be bad for the environment, like the air we breathe.

So, the government makes rules to protect the environment and to make sure that the smoke coming out of cars is not too bad. The rules are called emissions standards.

Volkswagen makes cars, and they wanted to sell a lot of them. But they found it hard to make their cars meet the emissions standards, that means their cars were too dirty for the environment. So they cheated.

They put a computer in their cars that could detect when the car was being tested for emissions. When the computer detected that the car was being tested, it would make the car produce less pollution so that it looked like it met the emissions standards. But when people drove the car normally on the road, the car would actually pollute a lot more than the legal limit.

This was cheating, and it was really bad because it meant that Volkswagen was lying to people and to the government about how clean their cars are. When people found out, they were very upset and Volkswagen had to pay a lot of money to make things right.

So, what Volkswagen did was not okay, it was cheating, and cheating is never okay. We need to follow the rules and protect the environment because it is important for everyone’s health and well-being.
