Volunteered geographic information

Volunteered geographic information (VGI) is when people collect information about things in their local area and share it with other people. This type of information is helpful for creating maps, either online or on paper, and for understanding what is happening in a particular place. For example, volunteers can take pictures of a new bike path or trails that have been built in their town, and share this information online so that other people around the world can see what their place looks like.
