A wafer is a thin, round piece of material that is used in electronics. It is made from something called a semiconductor, which helps control the flow of electricity. For example, when you turn on a light switch in your house, electricity flows through a semiconductor-based circuit in the switch, which then turns the light on. Wafers are used in many different types of circuits, like phones, computers, and TVs. They are made by growing a layer of semiconductor material on a flat piece of metal, then using special equipment to etch (cut) the wafer into a pattern to create the circuit.
