War savings stamps

War savings stamps are like little stickers that people can buy to help the government raise money for the war. Imagine you're playing with your friends and you want to buy a toy but you don't have enough money. So you decide to ask your other friends to help you by giving you some of their money. That's kind of like what the government is doing with war savings stamps. They're asking people to give them some money so they can use it to help fight the war.

When you buy a war savings stamp, you get a little piece of paper with a picture on it that shows you're helping the war effort. The paper is like a special little coupon that you can collect. You can buy as many of these special little coupons as you want and you can put them all together to make a big pile of coupons.

Once you have a big pile of coupons, you can take them to the bank and trade them in for real money. The bank will give you back more money than you paid for the coupons because the government is trying to encourage people to help out with the war. So it's kind of like a game where you can earn extra money by helping out!

These war savings stamps were really important during times when the government needed a lot of extra money to pay for the war. They were used a lot during World War I and World War II. Lots of people collected them and felt proud that they were helping their country.
