Waterman butterfly projection

Waterman butterfly projection is like taking a picture of the Earth from space and then wrapping it around a ball in a special way so that it looks flat when you look at it on a map. It's kind of like taking a piece of paper and wrapping it around a ball so that it covers the whole ball and looks like a map of the world, but without any bumps or distortions.

The Waterman butterfly projection is different because it's designed to show the Earth's surface in a way that's more accurate than other flat maps. It does this by breaking the surface of the Earth up into little triangles, and then flattening these triangles out onto a two-dimensional "butterfly" shape. This makes it easier to see the actual shape of the Earth's continents and oceans without any distortions.

So basically, the Waterman butterfly projection is a special kind of map that shows the Earth in a more accurate way than other flat maps, by breaking it up into triangles and flattening it out onto a two-dimensional shape that looks like a butterfly.
