ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Westinghouse Sign

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen those big signs with flashy lights that light up the night sky in big cities? That's called a Westinghouse Sign.

Now let me explain how it works. The sign is made up of lots of small light bulbs called incandescent lamps. These are the same types of bulbs that you might have in your bedroom lamp, but there are a lot more of them!

The sign is controlled by a computer that tells each bulb when to turn on and off. This creates different patterns of light and colors that make the sign look cool and eye-catching.

But did you know that the Westinghouse Sign was first invented a long time ago? It was created by a man named George Westinghouse over 100 years ago!

Today, some of these signs are still around and they're considered a classic part of city living. The next time you see one, you can think about all the cool technology that goes into making it work. Pretty neat, huh?
