ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Wide-gamut RGB color space

Let's imagine you have a big box of colored crayons. There are different shades of colors in it, like red, blue, and green. You can use these colors to draw and paint anything you like.

Now, a wide-gamut RGB color space is like having an even bigger box of crayons. It has more shades of colors than a regular box of crayons. Just like a regular box has red, blue, and green, this bigger box might have even more shades of red, blue, and green.

When we talk about a color space, we are talking about the range of colors that can be displayed or printed. A wide-gamut RGB color space has a larger range of colors than other color spaces, which means it can show even more colors that look more vibrant and real.

Sometimes, when we try to draw or print a picture with different colors, the colors might not look exactly the same as the real thing. This is because not every device can display or print all the colors in the wide-gamut RGB color space. However, by using a wider range of colors, we can get closer to the real colors and make our pictures look even more beautiful.
