ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Widget toolkit

A widget toolkit is like a box of toys that a computer helper can use to build special things that you can play with on your computer screen. Just like how you can use different building blocks to make different things, these widgets can be combined in many different ways to create cool programs and applications for you to use on your computer.

A widget (short for "window gadget") is like a mini-tool that does just one job, like a button you can click, or a box where you can type in words. The toolkit is like a collection of lots of different kinds of widgets that your computer helper can choose from, depending on what it needs to build for you. This way, when someone wants to make a new app or program for you to use, they can just choose the right widget from the toolkit and put it together like a puzzle to make the new thing you'll love playing with!
