Woman's Christian Temperance Union

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union, or WCTU for short, was a group of women who came together to try and stop people from drinking alcohol. They believed that drinking alcohol was a bad thing because it could make people sick, hurt their families, and make them act in bad ways.

To try and stop people from drinking, the WCTU did things like hold meetings to talk about the dangers of alcohol, pass laws to make it illegal to sell or drink alcohol, and even smash bottles of alcohol in public. They also encouraged people to sign a pledge promising not to drink alcohol.

The WCTU was started in the late 1800s in the United States, and it grew very quickly. At its peak, it had thousands of members all over the country, and it was even influential in other parts of the world.

Overall, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union was a group of women who cared about the well-being of their communities and wanted to make a positive change. While not everyone agrees with their views on alcohol, they were able to make a difference and bring attention to an important issue.
