ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

World War II casualties of the Soviet Union

Okay kiddo, let me explain World War II casualties in the Soviet Union in a way you can understand.

Imagine if a group of kids were playing a game of tag. Except this game was really serious and lasted for six long years. Two of the biggest and strongest kids, called Germany and the Soviet Union, were playing on opposite teams.

The game was so intense and violent that many kids got hurt and some even got killed. Unfortunately, the Soviet Union's team suffered the most injuries and the most players were killed.

It's estimated that over 25 million people, mostly from the Soviet Union, died during this game of tag called World War II. That's a really, really big number and it's hard to even imagine!

Some people say that the Soviet Union sacrificed a lot to help end the game of tag and make the world a better place. But it's always important to remember that war is a very serious matter and it's not a game that kids, or anyone, should play.
