The Wright Brothers Patent War was a legal battle between two brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright, and other inventors over who invented the first airplane. The Wright brothers had patented their invention in 1906 and believed that any other inventors were copying their design without their permission. The other inventors argued that the brothers should not be allowed to have a monopoly over such an important invention. The Patent War lasted for years and ended with the brothers ultimately winning the fight and keeping their patent rights. Because of this, the Wright brothers were the only ones allowed to profit from airplane sales and profits, until their patent rights expired in 1918.
