ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Wu Chinese

Wu Chinese is a way of talking that some people use in China. Imagine that we are playing a game where we talk in a special way so that only we can understand each other. Wu Chinese is kind of like that, except it's not a game.

In China, there are lots of different ways of talking. Wu Chinese is one of them. It's mostly used in parts of China called Jiangsu and Zhejiang. People who use Wu Chinese might sound different than people who speak Mandarin, which is the most common language in China.

When you speak Wu Chinese, you might use different words or say things in a different order than you would if you were speaking Mandarin. It's kind of like how some people from different places in the United States might use different words, even though they all speak English.

Some people might think that Wu Chinese is fun to speak because it sounds different than other languages. But it's important to remember that lots of people use Wu Chinese every day to communicate with each other, and it's a very important part of their culture.
