ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Yanakuna

Yanakuna is a big word that means people who used to work for other people a long, long time ago. They were like helpers or servants, but they didn't get paid like we do now. They worked really hard for the people who owned the land they worked on, like farmers or rich people. They did things like taking care of animals, making food, and cleaning.

Sometimes, yanakuna were treated badly by the people they worked for. This wasn't fair, but it was how things were back then. Over time, people started to understand that everyone should be treated equally and that it wasn't okay to make other people work for free. Today, we have laws that protect workers and make sure they get paid fairly for the work they do.
