Yerida (sometimes spelled Yeridah) is the Hebrew word for “descent” or “going down” and is used to describe when Jews leave their homeland and migrate to another country. This is a very important part of Jewish history as it has happened a few times throughout history and is still happening today. Jews have left their homes in search of a better life and freedom from persecution many times in the past and they continue to do so today. Emigration, or yerida, can be a difficult and emotional process since it means leaving the place where the Jewish people have called home for generations, but many Jews feel that it is necessary in order to provide a better future for themselves and their families.
