ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Zhongdu

Zhongdu is a word that means "central capital" in Chinese. It was the name given to the capital city of the Jin dynasty in China during the 13th century. Think of it like your house, but instead of it being where you live, it's where the emperor of China lives!

The city was located in what is now modern-day Beijing and was known for its impressive architecture and bustling markets. It was also the center of political power in China at the time.

Just like in your class, there were many important people who worked and lived in Zhongdu. These included the emperor and his family, government officials, and soldiers. They all had important jobs to do to keep the city running smoothly.

One of the most famous parts of Zhongdu was the Forbidden City. This was a large palace complex where the emperor and his family lived. It had beautiful gardens, impressive buildings, and lots of valuable treasures. Just like how you might have a special play area in your house that only you and your siblings are allowed to go to, the Forbidden City was only for the emperor and his closest family members and workers.

Zhongdu was a very important city in the history of China, and it played a big role in the development of the country. Today, Beijing remains an important city in China, and the Forbidden City is one of its most popular tourist attractions!
