Spay and neuter

Spay and neuter mean taking the animal to the doctor so that they can't have babies.

When a girl animal (like a dog or cat) gets spayed, the doctor takes out her ovaries (the part that makes eggs) so she can't have babies. It's like taking a slice of pizza out of a pizza, and you can't make more pizzas with that slice.

When a boy animal (like a dog or cat) gets neutered, the doctor takes out his testicles (the part that makes sperm) so he can't have babies. It's like taking the seeds out of a watermelon, and you can't grow more watermelons with those seeds.

Spaying and neutering animals is important for lots of reasons. For one thing, if there are too many animals in one place, they might not have enough food or homes to live in. Plus, sometimes animals can get sick if they have too many babies. Spaying and neutering helps make sure that animals stay healthy and happy.
