ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

1979 energy crisis

Okay kiddo, so back in 1979, people were having a hard time finding enough energy to power their cars and homes. This was called the "energy crisis."

One big reason for the crisis was because some of the countries that we usually got our oil from were having problems, so we didn't have as much oil to use. And without oil, we can't make gasoline for our cars or heat our homes.

Another reason was because there were a lot of people using energy, but not enough being made to keep up with the demand.

All of this led to long lines at gas stations where people waited for hours just to fill up their cars. Some gas stations even ran out of gas completely!

People had to start finding new ways to save energy, like turning off lights when they weren't using them or not using their cars as much.

It was a tough time for a lot of people, but we learned how important it is to conserve energy and find new ways to power our lives.
