Iran hostage crisis

On November 4, 1979, a group of Iranian students who were very unhappy with the United States decided to take some American people as hostages. Hostages are people who are taken and not allowed to leave until a certain condition is met. In this case, the condition was that the United States needed to return the former ruler of Iran, who was very sick and receiving treatment in the United States.

The group of students broke into the United States embassy in Tehran, which is the capital of Iran, and took 52 American citizens hostage. They also took many documents and pictures, and they destroyed a lot of parts of the embassy.

The American hostages were kept in very bad conditions, with small rooms and little food. They were also threatened and sometimes beaten.

The United States government was not happy about this and tried to negotiate with the Iranian government to release the hostages. Negotiations are talks to try to come to an agreement.

However, the Iranian government did not listen to the United States and instead seemed to support the actions of the students. The hostages were not released for 444 days, which is almost 15 months.

Finally, in January 1981, the Iranian government agreed to release the hostages in exchange for some very important things, including some money and access to some things Iran needed to improve its economy.

The Iran hostage crisis was a very serious situation and it strained the relationship between the United States and Iran for many years.
