Global warming is when the Earth gets hotter because there is too much carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Carbon dioxide traps the sun's heat, making the planet hotter. This can cause ice to melt and sea levels to rise, change weather patterns and make storms more severe, affect plant and animal habitats, and make some places very hot and dry.
Adapting to global warming means making changes so that we can still get what we need from the environment even though it is changing. For example, people can grow different kinds of crops that do better in hotter temperatures, and animals can move to new places. We can also build stronger homes and use better technology to help us understand what is happening and be prepared for storms and floods.
