An adding machine is a tool used to add numbers. It works like a real-life calculator: it has buttons that you use to type in a number and then the adding machine adds it all up at the end. It's used by people in lots of different kinds of jobs. For example, people in businesses use adding machines to add up sales numbers, or keep track of how much money they have in the bank.
