Akkadian cuneiform

Akkadian cuneiform is an old way that people from a long time ago wrote things down. They used a special tool called a stylus to make marks in soft clay tablets. These marks were special shapes called "cuneiform" which means wedge-shaped writing.

Each shape had its own special meaning and it could be used to stand for a letter, a word or even a whole idea! Like when you draw a heart to stand for love.

People who could read and write in Akkadian cuneiform were very important in their society. They could write down important things like laws, religious stories, and even letters to people they couldn't see.

Akkadian cuneiform was used a lot by the people of Mesopotamia, which is an area that is now part of Iraq. Many tablets have been dug up and they tell us a lot about how people lived and what they believed in a long, long time ago.
