Ambrosia beetle

An ambrosia beetle is a tiny insect that likes to live inside trees and eat a special type of fungus that grows there. The beetle drills a little hole in the tree and squirts out some gooey stuff that helps the fungus grow. Then the beetle lays its eggs in the tree and the baby beetles grow up eating the fungus too. Sometimes the beetles can be bad for the tree because they make too many holes and the tree can't grow properly. But some trees and beetles have lived together for a long time and they help each other out.
