Laurel wilt disease

Laurel wilt disease is a sickness that affects some trees called laurels, like avocado, sassafras, and bay. It's caused by a tiny beetle and a fungus working together. The beetle burrows into the tree and digs tunnels where it lays its eggs. While doing this, it brings the fungus with it, and the fungus grows inside the tree. The fungus blocks the water and nutrients from going to the rest of the tree, making it sick and eventually killing it. It's important to try and prevent the spread of laurel wilt disease by not moving firewood or trees that are infected with the beetle or fungus.
