ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Amidicity

Imagine you are painting with different colors. Amidity is like the amount of water you put on your brush before dipping it into the paint. The more water you add, the thinner and more spread out the paint becomes.

In the same way, humidity is how much water vapor is in the air around us. When there is a lot of water vapor in the air, we say it is humid. This can make us feel sweaty and uncomfortable because our body can't cool down as easily.

On the other hand, when there is very little water vapor in the air, it is less humid. This can make the air feel dry and cause our skin to become dry and itchy.

So, amidicity is a fancy word that scientists use to describe how much water vapor is in the air at a certain time and place. It measures how much like the paint is spreading when you add more water to it, but in the air we breathe!
