ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Anomalous monism

Anomalous monism is a kind of philosophy that helps to explain how two different things can be related. It starts with the idea that everything in the world can be divided into two kinds of things - mental things and physical things. A mental thing is something that lives inside your head, like thoughts or feelings. A physical thing is something from the outside world, like a tree or a place.
Anomalous monism looks at how these two kinds of things can be related to each other. It says that people are made of both physical and mental things, but that they are still related in some mysterious ways. That means that when something happens in the physical world, like you bump into a table, it can also have an effect in your mental world, like feeling scared. It's like there is some kind of link between physical and mental things that we don't fully understand.
