Area is the amount of space something covers or takes up. It's usually measured in units like square feet or square meters. If you're standing on the ground and spread out your arms, you're standing in an area. A room in a house also has an area. You can find the area of a room by measuring the length and width of the room, and then multiplying those numbers together.
