ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Artifact (archaeology)

An artifact is like a treasure that was buried a long time ago and is now found by people who study history. It can be anything from a tool that was used to hunt animals or make clothing, to a piece of pottery, or even bones from an animal that lived a long time ago. When people find an artifact, they can learn about what life was like for the people who used or made it a long time ago. It's like having a time machine that lets us see what the world was like a long time ago.
