Small finds

Small finds are things that archaeologists find during a dig that are not big, like walls or buildings, but are still important. Imagine you are playing in the backyard and you find a shiny rock. That rock might not be big, but it might be special and important to you. The things that archaeologists find during a dig are like that shiny rock.

Some examples of small finds are pieces of pottery, coins, buttons, jewelry, and even animal bones. These little things can help archaeologists understand how people used to live a long time ago.

Archaeologists take extra care when they find small finds. They carefully pick them up and put them in a special bag so they don't get mixed up with other things. Then they take them to a lab where they can study them more closely.

Even though small finds may be small, they can tell us big things about the past!
