Excavation (archaeology)

Archaeological excavation is when a team of scientists (called archaeologists) carefully digs up the ground and removes any dirt to look for items or clues about past cultures and civilizations. Archaeologists might use different tools like trowels, brushes, and shovels to slowly remove the dirt. They record everything they find, like pieces of pottery, tools, pieces of jewelry, and even pieces of buildings. By finding these artifacts and examining them, archaeologists can learn a lot about people who lived in the past.
