Atman is an important part of Buddhist teachings. It is the Buddhist term for soul and means “self”. The idea is that we all have a soul that is part of us and gives us our unique identity. Buddhists believe that atman, or the soul, is our true inner self and it is eternal, or lasting forever. It exists not just in our bodies, but also in all living beings, everything in the universe, and beyond. Buddhists think that it is through understanding atman and its connection to the world around us, we can gain true enlightenment and peace.
