Do you know what the atmosphere is? It's like a big blanket of air that surrounds the Earth. Jupiter also has an atmosphere, but it's very different from Earth's.
Jupiter's atmosphere is made up mostly of hydrogen and helium gases, just like how the air we breathe is made up mostly of oxygen and nitrogen gases. But Jupiter's gases are really cold and really windy! The temperature on Jupiter can get as cold as -234 degrees Fahrenheit (-145 degrees Celsius), which is MUCH colder than the coldest winter day you've ever experienced. The wind speeds can also get very fast, up to 400 miles per hour (644 kilometers per hour)!
Jupiter's atmosphere has lots of different layers, kind of like how a cake has different layers. At the top of Jupiter's atmosphere is a layer called the troposphere, where most of the weather we see happens. There are huge storms on Jupiter, some of which have been spinning for hundreds of years! You might have heard of the Great Red Spot, which is a giant storm on Jupiter that's even bigger than the size of Earth!
Below the troposphere is a layer called the stratosphere, and below that is the mesosphere. At the very bottom of Jupiter's atmosphere is the layer called the thermosphere.
So, to sum it up, Jupiter's atmosphere is like a really cold and windy blanket of gases made up of mostly hydrogen and helium. It's made up of different layers, each with its own unique features and characteristics. And there are some pretty crazy storms happening up there!
