ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Atmospheric limb sounding

Atmospheric limb sounding is like listening to someone talk through a wall and trying to figure out what they're saying without actually seeing them. Scientists use special instruments on satellites to "listen" to the molecules in the Earth's atmosphere through the edge, or "limb," of the atmosphere. They can figure out what kind of gases are in the atmosphere and how they're moving around. This helps them understand things like climate change and how pollution affects the Earth.
