ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Aviation archaeology

Aviation archaeology is like playing detective and finding clues about old planes and their crash sites. Imagine you're playing a treasure hunt game, but instead of finding gold, you're trying to find pieces of metal, engines, and other parts of old airplanes buried in the ground or under the water.

Sometimes planes crash and people need to find out what happened. With aviation archaeology, people study the crash site to learn why the plane crashed and to help prevent future accidents. They study the pieces of the plane, like puzzles, to figure out what went wrong.

They also look at the surrounding area to find out how the weather was and if there were any other factors that might have contributed to the crash. They talk to people who may have seen or heard the crash to get more clues.

By using all of these clues, they can piece together what happened and make recommendations to help prevent similar accidents in the future. It's like being a scientific detective who solves mysteries to make the world a safer place.
